CONCEDING THAT THE NEXT general election will be a tough battle, Cabinet Minister Donville Inniss claims the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) is seeking $8 million to finance its re-election bid.
Delivering the opening address at a recent St James South branch meeting of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Inniss, the Member of Parliament for the area, said his party must know it had to prepare for a major showdown.
“We have worked hard over the last four years in every endeavour and have a track record to stand on, but we can’t sit back on our laurels and feel the next election will be an easy one,” he told the gathering.
“We have a right to take this country to the next level with our achievements since coming into office in 2008. We can’t let [former Prime Minister] Owen Arthur get his hands on the Ministry of Finance again and inflict more pain on the people of this country.”
