The Barbados Soccer Academy (BSA) is making huge strides on the international arena.
And Mark Bushell has become their most recent success story, after having landed a stint at Major League Soccer (MLS) club Houston Dynamo.
During a press conference at the National Stadium recently, it was revealed that Bushell, along with Ocean Sobers, Edward Okey and Jaden Norville had piqued the interest of the club.
They were among a total of 23 players from the academy who toured the United States recently.
BSA director Jack Bovell said that Bushell had been invited back to the club to continue training from July 6 to 16, and if he impresses the team’s coaches, he will have an opportunity to stay with the club and play in the Under-19 division.
“It has been a lot of hard work to get to this stage,” Bushell told MIDWEEKSPORT.
“So far, the experience has been a good one, and I plan on putting my best foot forward when I go back. I have been working really hard at improving my skills, and hopefully the coaches will be impressed when I go back, and I will get the opportunity to stay at the club.”
Bovell noted that the BSA had secured 18 scholarships sice its inception. However, he warned young players who had dreams of attaining scholarships that they needed to pay attention to their school work.
“No matter how good a footballer you are, if you do not do your school work you will not get far. Right now you need five or six CXCs to be considered for a scholarship. Talent and skill are not enough,” he said. (RB)
