GREEN PEAS and ripe tomatoes, broccoli in varying hues and the strong aroma of clove, chives and onions came from every nook and cranny of Bridgetown as store owners and vendors capitalized on the Christmas Eve rush.
Loud calls of “get ya peas, eight dollars a pint!” competed with the cries of children making their final appeals to parents to get that special gift for Christmas.
Known for low prices and a variety of stores, Swan Street slowed to a halt as shoppers and vendors occupied every available spot on the narrow street.
In front of the popular S.Y. Adam & Son, a crowd waited to buy the remaining square feet of vinyl flooring to adorn their homes while other shoppers looked around, laden with large plastic bags filled with toys, cleaning supplies, flowers, groceries and other Christmas treats.
