Everyone loves a good comeback story.
Sometimes the plot climaxes when external forces, whether through divine intervention or circumstances, push those in need of a second chance towards that realization.
The lesser known tale is of the dark horse pushing to the finish line.
That’s what Sharifa Corbin did.
The 16-year-old was honest about her anger problem. By her own admission, she had been in fights from primary school days, and even gave the teachers “a bit of trouble”.
She was in five fights in as many years at Alexandra School, and her final brawl resulted in her expulsion in May 2013.
In cases like Corbin’s, it is usually the pleadings of a mother, teacher or judicial official that would see her showing up at the steps of the Barbados Youth Service.
Not this time.
