Defending champions in the BICO Primary Schools Football Competition, St Gabriel’s, didn’t waste any time getting off the mark as they drubbed People’s Cathedral 6-1 in the opening round of matches yesterday.
Goals from Asher Jon Pierre, Nick Storey, Ethan Bryan, Dillon William, Ryan Lashley and Kyle Lewis helped to complete the rout, with McCallum Clarke’s strike from the penalty spot being a mere consolation for the losers.
Last year’s losing finalists Bay Primary also started their campaign on a winning note, blanking St Winifred’s 3-0 thanks to a brace from Anthony Alleyne and a strike from Kadeem Small.
Shaquem Goddard and Rashad Haynes scored the first hat-tricks in this year’s competition.
Goddard’s performance helped Deacons to a convincing 5-0 victory over neighbours Eagle Hall Primary, while Haynes’ led All Saints to an equally commanding 6-0 thumping of Ignatius Byer.
There was also a big win for Roland Edwards, who drubbed Half Moon Fort 5-0, thanks to two goals from Coby Hinds and one each from Emmerson Graham, Darrell Johnson-Griffith and James Thorne. (RB)
