Barbados will be represented at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after all.
After winning the prize of a lifetime, Nadia Hackett is heading to Rio de Janeiro to witness two matches at the legendary Maracanã Stadium.
Thanks to telecoms provider LIME and BlackBerry Limited, Hackett and a guest will enjoy a package that includes airfare, seven nights’ accommodation at the Othon Palace in Rio, match tickets, a dedicated concierge service and $4 000 spending money.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, that’s for sure,” said Hackett, an accounts clerk.
“I wasn’t much of a football fan before. However, I can’t stop thinking about the game now. I am so excited that it’s hard to describe. And of course, I will be supporting Brazil!”
Hackett won the prize after she purchased a BlackBerry handset from LIME last December.
While in Rio, she will first watch South American juggernauts Argentina take on Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 15, while three days later, it will be the highly-anticipated showdown between defending champions Spain and Chile.
“LIME and BlackBerry are thrilled to offer this amazing experience, and with the World Cup in Brazil, which is the spiritual home of football, this will no doubt be an unforgettable trip,”
said Marilyn Sealy, corporate communications and public relations manager of LIME.
“For the next couple of weeks, the eyes of the world will be on Brazil, and Nadia will be front and centre, enjoying not only the football, but a week in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.”
During the June 12 to July 13 tournament, LIME customers will also have an opportunity to win $10 000 by texting to short code 7529 and answering World Cup trivia.
