HIGH NET WORTH INDIVIDUALS (HNWI) and others granted special entry into Barbados under Government’s expanded special entry permit scheme will have to shell out between $5 000 and $10 000 to live here and up to $30 000 more if they want to work.
For the rich among them, up to $1 million in health insurance coverage will also be required.
The fees and conditions for people with a net worth of at least $10 million, staff of regional and international organizations, non-Barbadian parents and grandparents of Barbadian citizens, and property owners who want to retire here, were agreed by Cabinet and will be cited in Tuesday’s Budget speech, “giving the Immigration Department the necessary legal grounds for implementation”, according to information received.
The plan to give expanded categories of non-nationals the opportunity to “come and go as they wish and . . . stay in the island for such length of time as they desire” was announced last week in the Senate by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Darcy Boyce.
