HAVING a new multi-purpose state-of-the-art cultural and performing arts centre will make the difference between “growing potatoes in rocky soil and growing them in fertile soil”.
That’s how veteran promoter Al Gilkes summed up his reaction to Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler’s announcement yesterday of plans to build a cultural facility on land at Spring Garden, opposite Brandons Beach.
Gilkes, along with others well known in the cultural industries like Antonio “Boo” Rudder, Gilbert Rowe and Anthony Gabby Carter, gave the plan for the new facility to be built through a grant from China the thumbs up, with most adding it had been “long in coming”.
They all agreed the minister had taken bold steps to boost the cultural industries. (CT)
