Bad start

THERE’S AN ABSENCE of supervision in many homes while education is no longer seen as a priority.
These are among the worrying signs observed by the Probation Department as it grapples to correct the deviant behaviour exhibited by an increasing number of youth in Barbados.
“Children are not accustomed to doing chores; they are not accustomed to hearing (obeying) to their parents, so when they go to school there’s no seriousness in schooling,” said Acting Chief Probation Officer Angela Odle.
“It starts in the home. Parents do not set down rules and guidelines in the home – anything goes, you can do as you like.”
