Expect a bigger, better Foreday Morning Jam on Saturday with 15 000 revellers preparing to take to the streets. This was revealed at a Press conference at the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) yesterday. One major change to the early morning jump-up is the significant increase in the number of organised bands that will be on the road.Marc Massiah, coordinator of the event, said that the 17 registered bands, increasing by “three or four”, would represent the biggest participation in several years.Revellers will have more time on the road to party as they take advantage of the new, longer route from Carlisle car park onto Princess Alice Highway and finishing on the Spring Garden Highway. In addition to the longer route, patrons will be treated to a free Sunrise Beach Party on Brandons Beach from 5 a.m. The party will feature popular deejays and live performances. Massiah said that the NCF was proud to introduce the beach party because it would be “a fitting end to the biggest jump”.Ashanti Trotman, special projects officer at the NCF, said there will be full security on the road with all emergency services on hand. He stated that a contingent of doctors from the Ministry of Health would also be ready to lend any needed assistance. Trotman made a special plea to revellers to “be your brother’s keeper” and to “think safety”. Most positive feedbackBrian Worrell of Colorz Entertainment said that in his seven years of participation, this year had brought the most positive feedback. He was especially pleased with the tight security which will be in place as security has always posed a challenge for bandleaders.Lloyda Springer, bandleader of Jambalasse, said that she was satisfied with the changes made over the years. She added that such changes have helped to encourage corporate sponsorship which would have been deterred by the street jam’s previous reputation. David Foster, managing director of Roberts Manufacturing Company Ltd., which has been supporting the Foreday Morning Jam for many years, said that he was proud to provide the “necessary funding” and this had led to the “tremendous” growth of the event.
