BARBADIAN MUSIC SUPERSTAR Rihanna is set to make her Hollywood debut. The 22-year-old R&B singer is expected to start her feature film career in the science fiction action movie Battleship which is directed by Peter Berg, according to several movie and showbiz websites.Battleship, a science fiction naval war film, is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2012, and shooting will begin before the end of this year.Rihanna, who has achieved seven No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 since first appearing on the charts in 2005, has three Grammy Awards under her belt: the first in 2008 for the record-breaking Umbrella and two in February this year as part of a Def Jam collaboration with the song Run This Town.Rihanna has made guest appearances in several movies, and also holds lucrative endorsements with CoverGirl, Nike, Gucci and Clinique. Born of Barbadian and Guyanese parents, Robyn Rihanna Fenty began singing at age seven while at Charles F. Broome Primary School, and continued at Combermere where she formed a musical trio with classmates at age 15. After winning the annual Combermere pageant in 2004, she was discovered by American music industry veteran Evan Rogers, who introduced her to Def Jam. The label immediately signed her, and she burst onto the international pop scene in 2005 with Pon De Replay. (RJ)
