‘No splurging!’

MINISTER OF FINANCE Chris Sinckler says not to expect the Government to deviate from its Medium-term Fiscal Strategy or its effort at fiscal consolidation because it is an election year – as he prepares to lay the 2012-2013 Estimates in the House of Assembly tomorrow.
“This is a responsible administration,”?Sinckler said. “I wouldn’t want a situation where we do like previous administrations and go on a splurge just for the purpose of winning a general election and then destroy the whole country. We have to be very strategic and targeted and we’ve done that with these Estimates.”
He told the DAILY?NATION on Saturday certain targets for expenditure were outlined in the strategy he described as a guidepost for where the Government wanted to be at a particular point in time.
And, he said, it was the Government’s “best anticipation” that it would meet and possibly slightly better these targets.
