Barney Brathwaite (left) and Victor Young (right) were engaged in a day-long battle at yesterday’s National Senior Games at the National Stadium.
Brathwaite, who competed in the 75-79 division, and Young, in the 70-74, came head-to-head after their age groups were merged because of the limited number of athletes in their respective divisions.
It resulted in a dazzling duel, with both athletes clocking the same time in the 50-metre dash (8.14) in an enthralling finish, before Young pulled out all the stops to defeat his arch-rival in the 400 metres in another exciting contest.
Both athletes seem set on their way to the 2012 Huntsman World Senior Games in Utah from October 8 to 21.
