CCJ pleased with lawyers

Five judges of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) have praised the high standard of legal presentations during the last four days in which they held sessions for the first time out of Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Addressing counsel in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court Complex on Whitepark Road yesterday, Justice Rolston Nelson, presiding over the CCJ panel in the absence of substantive president Sir Dennis Byron, thanked the attorneys on their “very high standard of submissions”.
“You have vindicated the Caribbean governments’ set-up of the Caribbean Court of Justice. And by your conduct here have shown that counsel here can be equated with those at the level of the Privy Council,” he told the court at the end of a case in which a fruit supply company had appealed the high level of compensation given to six workers by the Belize Supreme Court.
The judges reserved their ruling in that matter. (RJ)
