Sir Courtney ‘comforted’ by report

“Somewhat comforted!” was former Governor of Barbados Central Bank Sir Courtney Blackman’s reaction to the recent report on Barbados’ economic performance last year which showed growth of 0.5 per cent accompanied by a projection of a one per cent economic expansion in 2012.
“Generally speaking, I am somewhat comforted by the Central Bank’s latest report which showed that things are not out of control,” Sir Courtney told the DAILY NATION in New York.
“The economy certainly doesn’t seem to be out of control. In these uncertain times, you can’t really realistically expect Barbados’ economy to grow by about three to four per cent. After all, very seldom did the economy grow by more than five per cent and as long as it is growing, you have to be thankful.
“The environment is very uncertain and therefore we have to hold on.”
