If ever there was an odd couple it would be World and Olympic 100 metres record holder Usain Bolt and Virgin chief Sir Richard Branson.
The difference between them can obviously be seen.
But for the benefit of the communication firm’s multimillion-dollar ad campaign to promote Virgin’s superfast broadband service, the two swapped places.
Bolt, in a tongue-in-cheek attempt to impersonate Branson, took over his office and donned the billionaire’s trademark blonde goatee, and he tried to persuade the public that he is the Virgin boss.
His efforts are interrupted when the real Branson appears and demands Bolt leaves.
It ends with Bolt pulling his famous ‘To Di World’ lightning pose and wagging his finger at the firm’s web address.
Jeff Dodds, executive director of brand and marketing communications at Virgin Media, said the ad “is a brilliantly simple idea, but the trick was to avoid the obvious sportsman endorsement cliches”. (SP)
