The lack of regulation at the Vehicle and Metal Dump at Cane Garden and the business operating without the required permits is a bone of contention for residents who hope the recent industrial fire at the facility would prompt the Government to put some regulations in place.
Frank Drakes said there was concern about health all along but the fire made it a national issue.
“What you have there is someone disposing of derelict vehicles, fridges and stoves for scrap, and there is no process or guidelines for salvage here like in the United States,” he said.
Drakes said there are guidelines for dismantling items and storing components but at that dump everything was being heaped in one spot. (LK)
