What Bajans did on May Day

It was a day of rest and reflection for some and celebration for others yesterday as Barbadians from all walks of life participated in May Day activities.
Of course, the major event was the commemoration of International Workers’ Day by the Barbados Workers’ Union that culminated with a rally at Brownes Beach, Bay Street, St Michael, which brought out hundreds of people.
But other beaches, too, were well populated with families and friends enjoying picnics.
Then there was kite-flying, as well as the football and cricket games being played at the numerous playing fields across the island. And don’t forget the village shops with karaoke sessions.
Police reported a relatively incident-free day though a man was stabbed in a fight on Brownes Beach. At Press time, no information was available on that matter. (AH)
