Barbadian jailed in St Lucia

CASTRIES, St Lucia, Sept 10, CMC – A Barbadian national was Monday sentenced to seven years in jail term after he pleaded guilty to gun and illegal drug charges.
Police said that Irone Bascombe was arrested along with three other people, including Lennox Andrew of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, during a police roadblock in the southern town of Vieux Fort over the weekend.
The authorities said that all the occupants of the vehicle, including nationals Pamela Dorville and Wilson Alcide, were charged with being in possession of a controlled drug, possession with intent to supply a controlled drug, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition after a pistol was found in the vehicle.
Bascombe pleaded guilty to all charges when he appeared in court and was jailed for seven years each on the charges possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition charges. The sentence will run concurrently.
Bascombe was also cautioned, reprimanded and discharged on the charge of possession of marijuana and fined EC$500 (One EC Dollar = US$0.37 cents) on the charge of intent to supply or serve 30 days in prison.
The charges were dropped against the other accused.
Meanwhile, police said one person is assisting their investigations into the brutal death of 44-year-old Tamarie Eugene, whose body was found at the bottom of a cliff, south east of here, over the weekend.
