THE AIR PASSENGER Duty (APD) on long-haul flights from the United Kingdom is to be reduced, but it remains an issue for British Airways.
Speaking at a showcase of the British Airways Lounge at the Grantley Adams International Airport, District Manager Nigel Blackett said their position is that it should be abolished entirely.
He said surveys have shown that the APD has no positive effect on the UK economy, and that it could benefit by “billions of pounds” in investments and visitor arrivals if the APD was abolished. Further, he said the APD has made other destinations more attractive than Barbados.
“Part of this has been corrected, but for the long-term we really need the UK Government to abolish the APD,” Blackett stated. (YB)
