Unkind cut

Cut the budget of the Constituency Councils and use the money to help battered women.
That was the advice of president of the National Organisation of Women (NOW), Marilyn Rice-Bowen, to the Government while frowning on its decision to reduce support for programmes undertaken by the Shelter For Battered Women.
However, Rice-Bowen’s call was quickly dismissed by Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett, who said to the MIDWEEK NATION that everyone had to adjust, given Government’s financial circumstances.
This all unfolded at the 51st annual general meeting of Soroptimist International Barbados at Accra Beach Hotel Monday night.
