Less crime

CRIME IS DOWN, even though murders and the armed entry into people’s homes and businesses are up so far this year.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Erwin Boyce gave this update at the relaunch of the Atlantic Shores Neighbourhood Watch Programme yesterday evening.
He acknowledged that many might not believe the statistics, and blamed the media for playing up and fuelling the fear of crime. Boyce insisted there was no runaway crime.
Overall reported crime, he said, was down by 22 per cent when compared to last year’s figures, even though there were five murders so far for the year, compared to four for last year’s corresponding period, and 18 aggravated burglaries in 2014, up from 13.
