CHARLES F. BROOME aren’t suffering from any Guardian General Herman Griffith Primary Schools cricket hangover.
Led by Jelani Harris’ unbeaten half-century, the defending champs started this year’s tournament in the same vein they finished the last, beating Belmont by 113 runs in yesterday’s season opener at Blenheim.
Batting first, the kings rattled off 169 for seven in their allotted 25 overs as Harris hit 55 not out while getting good support from Nico Reifer (27).
Reifer then returned to take two wickets, and so too did Ryshon Williams and Ajani Ince to help rout Belmont for just 56 runs in the Zone B2 battle.
Last year’s losing finalists Bayleys also got off to a winning start after travelling to Hilda Skeene to beat their Zone C1 rivals by 28 runs.
Over at Market Hill, Shem Harris took five for eight, including a hat-trick as St Luke’s/Brighton skittled out St Jude’s Primary for 14 runs in an easy ten-wicket victory.
