TRAFFIC will come to a halt in The City on Sunday, July 3, when the Bridgetown Alive Dooflicky heats up the streets with road tennis, food stalls, entertainment and more as part of the Crop Over activities for 2011.
But that’s just one of the many initiatives Donna Hunte-Cox, chief executive officer of the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), highlighted yesterday during a Press conference at the Barbados National Bank’s (BNB) Broad Street branch to launch the BNB Crop Over Opening Gala and Ceremonial Delivery Of The Last Canes on July 2 at Queen’s Park.
Hunte-Cox, who collected a sponsorship cheque for $65 000, also revealed the NCF would be hosting two other new events, Pan Fusion and a folk concert series, with a full gospel concert as a special feature.
Pan Fusion, featuring Arturo Tappin and other Caribbean musicians, will be held at Ilaro Court on July 14, while folk lovers can head to the Queen’s Park Steel Shed and the Charles Fort, Hilton Barbados, on July 19 and July 26, respectively. The gospel lovers will have their day on July 20 at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed.
This year, BNB staff and officials will again participate in bringing the festive season to The City, as they will lead a procession of stilt walkers, Mother Sallies, dancers and cheerleaders through the streets of Bridgetown to Queen’s Park.
Hunte-Cox, in encouraging all Barbadians to come out and experience the festival, said the events outlined were just a part of what was in store for the festival.
“Indeed the festival amalgamates all cultural forms, including literary, culinary, visual arts, dance and, of course, music, in our own unique Barbadian way,” she stated. (CT)
