11-Plus not ‘watered down’

Forget the talk about a watered-down Common Entrance Exam. The high level of success this year just means that primary school students are “stepping up to the plate”.
Minister of Education and Human Resource Development Ronald Jones made this assertion in the House of Assembly yesterday, saying that rather than criticise the exam, people should praise the students’ performance.
Jones complained of “the detractors who speak of watering down of tests”, saying: “They have never sat a test in their lives. They have never prepared a test. They do not know how to create the right measurements, how to use the test right across the system or across the street.”
He said the good exam results were an indication that “the education system at the primary level is responding to our cause, is responding to the notion of qualitative education”. (TY)
