IT?WAS like the good old days on Sunday when the Queen’s Park Steel Shed threw open its doors for the staging of Cave Shepherd All Stars Calypso tent to signal its start to the 2011 Crop-Over Calypso season.
The first outing by the All Stars could well be described as tentative based on a couple of technical sound problems that presented themselves raising a few questions as to the tent’s full readiness.
Given the vast amount of experienced calypsonians in the tent however, it was not a surprise that it rode through the too often complaints from the large audience of “the band is too loud” .
The evening started off with a tribute to the late calypsonian Tassa who passed earlier in the year.
Patrons were carried back in time through video images of Tassa performing, with occassional reminiscenses from tent manager Eleanor Rice. Calypsonians from the tent also led a candle light procession to the stage where Tassa’s son Chad was presented with a token of appreciation.
