Some say there is too much male bashing in Barbados, others believe there just isn’t enough.
These were some of the views expressed by Nation Facebook readers when we asked them to respond to Canon Noel Titus who said Barbados needed to move from the male bashing.
His comments were made during a recent Father’s Day service when he frowned on the “continued assault on males”.
These were some of the comments our readers posted.
Greta Marlin: “Just about every country bashes the male species, but I believe it is all fun and games. Books were written by women bashing men and men usually buy these books and get a good laugh. They know that we (women) are just pulling their leg when we innocently bash them. But let’s face it, behind every intelligent man, there is a woman genius.
Lisa Taylor: “I honestly try not to pinpoint fathers are the only ones who do wrong … All men are not bad. Please give jack his jacket and when a man is at fault deal with him and when the mother has done wrong deal with her as well”. !
Al Wright: One bad apple does not spoil the whole barrel. I don’t know why men are always the brunt of jokes and seem to have fun made of them. So what makes a boy become a good man? There are many young boys raised by a single mother who became good men. There are young boys who were raised by both parents who became rebels. … Some men bring the wrath upon themselves by not respecting the woman in their life, and treat them less than they would expect someone to treat their own mother or sister. Every man has his destiny in his own hands and until he learns this and also know that a woman loves her man to take on the responsible role in the relationship, he will act like a wimp and get the bashing”.
Angela Fergusson: “…There are good, bad and downright ridiculous so called fathers in the world. Male bashing is global. It is not a Barbadian thing. It is sad and we all, male and female have much work to do.”
Frank Lucas “Yes there is too much male bashing in Barbados. …It won’t stop until the female. The two go hand in hand”.
Conchita Moseley: “Stop the male bashing, why should we? This is 2011 and we are not back in the times when men made the law that women were inferior creatures. Men have been escaping for decades with their behaviour because we women were brain washed into believing that “man” was superior to us women. Those days are long gone and in this modern day we women can and will talk back. If men want respect they should act responsibly, stop playing parts….” ashed.
Gabrielle Crichlow: “I believe that if the men do foolishness they need to be told but if they do good they should be rewarded as well. And this is for men and women. I will say respect is all that’s needed from and towards both sexes”.
