Barbadian maestro Mighty Gabby has written to United States President Barack Obama appealing for the release of four Cubans from the group known as the Cuban Five, in prison in the United states.
On Thursday, the 15th anniversary of the incarceration of the five, Gabby joined officials of the Cuban Embassy here, Cubans residing in Barbados and other Barbadian sympathizers with the Cuban struggle to focus attention on the United States’ continued incarceration of four of the five men.
The letter followed the entertainer’s participation in a Cuban rally in Washington, District of Columbia, a few months ago as part of the cause to which he had earlier pledged solidarity, writing a song Freedom, which has been endorsed by the Cuban Committee For The Five and renamed The National Anthem For The Five.
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were accused of conspiracy to commit espionage against the United States and subsequently sentenced to prison. (GC)
