Stuart is new RSS chairman

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart reaffirmed Barbados’ commitment to the Regional Security System (RSS) after assuming chairmanship of the Eastern Caribbean defence agency at a meeting last Wednesday in Antigua.
Stuart, who replaced Errol Cort, the National Security Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, gave the assurance that Barbados would continue to play a pivotal role in its operations.
Only last December when the RSS held its meeting here, Stuart reminded the region that “the system is an indispensable prerequisite to the continued tranquility of this region; and, whatever the Barbados Government has to do to ensure that it is properly resourced and properly fuelled – the Government will do as long as I have anything to do with it.”
The RSS, which is headquartered here, was formed in 1982 and provides for the defence and security of its seven member countries – Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, Grenada and St Kitts and Nevis. (SP/BGIS)
