Hundreds of teenagers danced the evening away and learned about protecting themselves against sexually transmitted infections at the Dance4Life big event held at the Barbados Concorde Experience earlier today.
Dance4Life Barbados held their global dance event where the students from the eight participating schools in the island enjoyed the music of popular entertainers including Cover Drive, Mikey, Kirk Brown, Alex and Salt, Callum Wright.
Participating students took the pledge designed by the National Youth Council, which included the vow to practice abstinence, safe sex by using a condom correctly and consistently and having one faithful partner.
The Dance4Life programme is an educational forum for children to discuss among themselves the issues that they as teenagers face, particularly in relation to sexual reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases and bullying.
In addition to the performances by the entertainers, the children also heard the message via video from Rupert “Rupee” Clarke on how his parents contracted and died from complications from AIDS.
This year the Maria Holder Memorial Trust sponsored Dance4Life activities. (LK)
