Summa time

It’s going to be an early “Summa” for 2011, when this 16-year-old calypsonian with Celebration Time calypso Tent makes her debut this Crop Over season.
And her parents, friends and fans are hopeful of a long and sizzling career for the teenager.
Summa’s parents have played an influential role in her rise as calypsonian – her mother and father were also calypsonians. Mum Christine Hinds Davis was a contestant in the Richard Stoute Teen Competition in 1986, and she made it all the way to the finals; she also performed in Bacchanal Time calypso tent in 1997.
Father David Davis has recorded songs such as Bussa Wine and Bucky Wuk Up.
The teenager said she remembered going on stage and singing with her mother and learning the dance moves.
Summa performed in the St David’s Primary School Calypso Competition where she placed first. She also performed at the Headliners tent, where she sang Celebrate featuring T-Shan.
“The opportunity to work with Blood was lots of fun,” she said.
She also worked with the Barbadian artiste to produce her song Display Ya Culture.
Summa said she got a lot of support from her family as well as her friends who put her music online to help promote it.
The young lady has a great deal of respect for soca star Destra.
“I like her melodies and the energy that she puts into her music,” she said.
The young calypsonian said her parents were happy with her chosen musical career; and with all the support from family and friends there is nothing to stop this young lady from becoming a top act in the artform. (NB)
