MIA?MOTTLEY?says pensioners, especially those who receive non-contributory pensions, are struggling to cope with the new drug prescription fee system.
On Wednesday night at a town hall meeting hosted by THE NATION newspaper at St Leonard’s Boys’ School, the former Opposition Leader said that six months was too long to review a system that was clearly impacting on pensioners and the indigent.
“Part of the difficulty in health care is that unlike education, unlike sports, and other areas of policy, the consequences of not getting it exactly right can be dire and be a matter of life and death, and I think that rather than waiting six months for the review in relation to pensioners and those who are indigent, and certainly pensioners who are low income, there should be an urgent review,” she said.
Mottley noted that health care had moved from $187 million to $486 million in 15 years, a 150 per cent increase. (MK)
