Rude teachers

AN ENGLISH TEACHER yesterday painted a picture of rampant disrespect towards principal Jeff Broomes, especially by Alexandra old scholars who had been teaching at the Speightstown-based institution for many years.
Vernel Woods, who turned up as a voluntary witness at the Commission of Inquiry into the school’s industrial dispute yesterday, said even her own experience was unpleasant in dealing with old scholar and former English department head Margo Clarke from her first day on the job in November 2006.
She recalled that Clarke “ungraciously” escorted her to a first form, was abrupt, gave her a stick of chalk and a board cleaner, and left her.
“On the first day I thought I would’ve been given a scheme of work to start with and an update,” Woods said, adding that she then went to the principal, who eventually provided her with the schemes of work.
