A ST MICHAEL MAN is fired up after his unoccupied house was stripped of its wiring and other components, leaving him with an estimated $20 000 bill to restore the property.
Rickala Green told the DAILY NATION he has been highly annoyed since last Monday when he stopped by to inspect the Golden Rock, Pine, St Michael property he acquired in January and discovered the vandalism.
“I came down to have a look at the property and I realized that the back door was open. When I entered, the first thing that greeted me was the smell. I looked in the bathroom and I realized that the guys were using the bathroom.
“I realized that all the wiring was gone from the property. They entered the ceiling and ripped out all the electrical [wiring] from in there too. The cubboards gone, doors gone, windows broken. There is also proof that people sleeping in the house,” Green said angrily.
The 41-year-old, who contacted the District A Police Station which is dealing with the matter, said while he was reeling over his losses, he was looking forward to seeing the “culprits” caught and brought to justice.
Explaining that he last inspected the house that was once the constituency office of the area’s Member of Parliament Hamilton Lashley, Green said: “It is sad to know you work hard, think you are going somewhere and then people do this.
“They cannot even get $25 for the wiring they removed from this property but it is going to cost over $20 000 to rewire this property and put back the cupboards.” (AH)
