PRIME MINISTER FREUNDEL STUART believes St Mary’s Church will always have an important role to play in the lives of people who live or work in Bridgetown.
Speaking yesterday at a service marking the 185th anniversary of the church’s consecration, the Prime Minister said the historic church in the heart of Barbados’capital had a key function in taking people’s minds off “the hustle and bustle of everyday life”.
“As long as there are those who are socially and economically bruised, there will be a need for St Mary’s. As long as there are those who are spiritually blind, there will be a need for St Mary’s”, the Prime Minister told a congregation that included parliamentary representative for The City, Patrick Todd, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Maxine McClean.
In his sermon, Bishop of Barbados Dr John Holder reminded the congregation that Bridgetown was more than buildings and he said the church must work for the welfare of The City, making people’s welfare its primary concern.
