An economical haul of five for 24, from left-arm spinner Derick Bishop and an accomplished unbeaten 65 from Shamar Cooke, left Republic Bank St Catherine as sole leaders in Zone B of the Sagicor General Super Cup going into the final preliminary round today.
In the clash of the joint pre-series leaders yesterday, St Catherine easily reached the target of 151 with 13.4 overs and seven wickets to spare.
The former YMPC player Cooke’s knock contained ten threes and two fours from 84 balls. He shared an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 59 in 13.1 overs with Kenroy Williams (19 not out).
YMPC were earlier routed for a miserly 150 in 41.3 overs. Dwayne Smith failed for the first time in this year’s competition, making 29, before he was bowled by Bishop after an opening stand of 46.
Bishop shared the new ball and delivered his ten overs on the trot.
Three balls later, Kemal Smith was snapped up at short leg without scoring. All-rounder Bishop, who continues to nudge the selectors with match-winning performances, also removed Steve Blackett and Ryan Wiggins in successive overs as YMPC were reduced to 66 for six.
Shane Dowrich, with a polished 54, and Calvin Watson (11) staged a mini recovery adding 37 for the seventh wicket. Dowrich struck six threes and one four off 100 deliveries. He and William Lashley (17) also posted 41 runs for the eighth-wicket.
