City stink

For?the second time in less than a month, angry residents in the densely populated Nelson Street and surrounding City areas have complained about the non-collection of garbage.
Along every street in that district, piles of unsightly garbage blocked sidewalks and roadways.
When a MIDWEEK NATION team visited the area, Agneta Ambrose, who has been living in Vine Street for several years, was busy bagging garbage strewn along the road, and sweeping the street outside her home.
“This is disgusting,” Ambrose cried, as she lamented that garbage trucks had not been to the area in over two weeks.
Her daughter Teturah said on Monday she also witnessed an open back truck dumping a load of garbage on the road along King William Street.
“Every street out here line off with garbage and the people still dumping, although they know the trucks ain’t coming out,” she said.
In addition to King William Street and Vine Street, there were lots of garbage on Spruce Street, Wellington Street, Beckwith Street and Queen Street.
Yesterday evening around 5 p.m., following telephone calls to the Sanitation Service Authority from this newspaper, a single truck was sent out to collect refuse from some of the areas. (MB)
