Improving Barbadians’ understanding of the tourism industry and the role they must play in embracing and contributing to its development will lead to significant growth.
This was the view of Minister of Tourism and International Transport Richard Sealy as he delivered remarks during the Barbados Let’s Talk Tourism feature at Mango Bay Hotel, Holetown, St James, yesterday.
The 15-minute feature on tourism here was produced in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and G & A Communications Inc.
It is intended to give Barbadians an insight and understanding of the tourism sector and its impact on the economy and society in general.
The minister said while the tourism product faced challenges as a result of the global economic recession and anticipated competition, if Barbadians understood the role they must play, the country would be ahead in the competition.
He said while Barbados had a reputation for genuine hospitality and a high rate of repeat visitors, the investment in taking tourism awareness to another level was necessary. (AH)
