Poverty plan to better life

STRESSING that Barbados could not hide from poverty and pretend it did not exist, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart gave the thumbs up to a special Government project targeting intergenerational poverty.
Speaking at the launch at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday, Stuart said the ISEE Bridge Pilot Project had the potential to transform the society “into not only a more efficient and productive society but, more importantly, a more caring society”.
The ISEE?project, a programme conceptualized by the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, will focus on households and families with a long history of poverty.
It will target 30 households, one in each of the 30 constituencies, with welfare officers expected to start their household interventions on October 1. (MK)
