Sporting authorities have been advised to claim road tennis before someone else does.
Cricket Legend and National Hero Sir Garfield Sobers yesterday warned, “if we do not go out there and promote it properly, somebody is going to take it away from us . . . and all we are going to say is it started in Barbados.”
Sir Garfield’s remarks were made after he received a gift of road tennis racquets and balls from Philip “Foff” Garner, a former president of the Barbados Road Tennis Association, at an informal birthday celebration hosted by the Barbados Tourism Authority in honour of the Cricket Legend’s 75th birthday.
“I think it is something that should be well promoted and (should) be ours,”, Sir Garry added. In making the presentation of four racquets and two balls, Garner explained that the equipment was weighted differently, tailored to attacking or defensive play. (GC)
