GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Dec 15, CMC – President Donald Ramotar has described the killings at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut as “horrific and senseless” as Guyana extended condolences to the United States.
In a message to President Barak Obama, the Guyanese head of state said that the murders on Friday  “struck a chord of grief and unbelief in the hearts of the people of Guyana”.
Connecticut State police spokesman Paul Vance said the gunman died at the scene and investigators said Saturday that they had assembled “some very good evidence” to explain what drove the 20-year-old gunman to slaughter 20 children and six adults.
The attacker, identified by law enforcement sources as Adam Lanza, opened fire on Friday morning at the school in Newtown, making the incident the second-deadliest US shooting, after 32 people died at Virginia Tech in 2007.
“Our investigators at the crime scene … did produce some very good evidence in this investigation that our investigators will be able to use in, hopefully, painting the complete picture as to how – and more importantly why – this occurred,” Vance added.
In his condolence message President Ramotar said the thoughts and prayers of all Guyanese people were with the families of the victims “at this difficult time”.
