The?184 per cent?import?tariff dilemma that is hurting some major business operations has become a national issue and resulted in the intervention of Minister of Industry Donville Inniss.
And after meeting with all of the stakeholders over the last two days, Inniss said the issue would get “top priority”.
Inniss met Tuesday with representatives of the Barbados Agricultural Society and the Barbados Manufacturers Association while yesterday, he was locked in talks with delegations from the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Subway, Burger King and supermarkets.
“It’s a major situation and will be treated as such. We realize what is at stake for both sides.
“This falls under trade and industry and my Ministry was keen to provide a forum where all concerned can express their views and put their heads together. The goal is to identify a situation,” Inniss said last night.
