The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Scotiabank King-Of-The-Hill event on May 26 will be over 2.5 kilometres from Fairfield to Luke Hill in St Lucy.
“I am looking forward to the event (and) although it’s short; it’s a blast of an uphill stage and stays true to the character of the event,” BRC spokesman Neil Barnard said.
He said the course was chosen for two reasons; it provides an excellent location for the club’s VIP Pavilion and even though it’s short, its first section has wide sweeping turns before returning to a more traditional bumpy format and provides a good mix for both local and visiting drivers.
The new course will start opposite the old Fairfield factory and goes east to Church Hill and continues in an easterly direction to the Luke Hill hairpin where it turns right and then goes in a westerly direction to the finish near Luke Village.
More than 100 competitors are expected to face the starter.
The Geest Line freighter Agulhas Stream left Portsmouth on the English south coast last Tuesday for the Caribbean with a shipment of 27 rally cars bound for Barbados for the event which is due to start at 9:45 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.
The international competitors will also come up against 70 regional crews in the BRC blue riband event over the weekend of June 1 and 2.
Competitors for the King-Of-The-Hill will be allowed a practice run before the three official runs and will have Greenland Plantation, St Andrew as the service area.
A prize-giving ceremony will follow the event for which the organizers have put in place a “park and ride” system, as spectator parking is limited.
