JA Opposition takes early lead

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The main opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has taken an early lead, winning 11 of the 16 seats so far declared.
Among the early winners is the PNP leader and president Portia Simpson-Miller who has won the St Andrew South West seat.
Sharon Haye Webster, the former PNP legislator, who crossed the floor to represent the JLP lost the St Catherine Eastern constituency to the PNP’s Denise Daley.
The other five seats have gone to the incumbent Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
Prime Minister Andrew Holness retained his St. Andrew West Central seat, but his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) appears heading for defeat in the general elections today.
Holness polled 7,844 to the 6,723 received by the main opposition People’s National Party’s (PNP) Patrick Robers.
The two main parties are seeking to take control of the 63-member Parliament for the next five years. (CMC)
