Update: Fire at Mount Gay

Emergency personnel from the Barbados Fire Service and the Royal Barbados Police Force are currently on the scene at the Mount Gay Distillery in St Lucy where a tank of alcohol is reportedly on fire. 

Six fire tenders and a number of fire officers including Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard are at this time trying to get the blaze under control.

NATIONNEWS understands that sometime after 3 p.m. there was a loud explosion on the plant and staff were evacuated. 

At the time, staff remain on the outside of the compound until further notice. 
The media has also been cordoned off due to safety reasons.
