For the fifth year in succession, everyone leaving the National Stadium after St. George Secondary’s Sports today were singing the blues after the Blazing Blues destroyed their opponents while capturing the title with a whopping 1403 points.
Perennial runners-up Green flash accumulated 1067 points while Purple Power gained 899.50 to leave the Red Rockets in the cellar with 717.50 points in spite of the remarkable performances by the slimly built Mary Frasier in the Under 13 division.
Frasier set records in the 1500, 8000, 3000, 400, 200 and placed second in the 100 to garner 68 points and the under 13 division championship with Jeal Williams nipping at her heels with 52 points to keep blue house out front. The 12-year-old Frasier show her class in the distance races where she almost lapped all of her opponents.
Former Westbury student Frasier also scored a consolation victory in the final race of the day the 4 x 400 medley where her house was last and she chased down a flagging victrix ludorum Shannya Wiggins to beat the 18 year old in the dash to the line.
But, if Frasier was impressive then victor ludorum Dwayne Callender was unbelievable in taking part in everything and winning most of them for blue house with records while racking up 103 points in the under 17 division.
Callender won the 200 in 24.38 shaving the old mark of 24.44, he captured the 800 in 2:22.03, he won the discus with a throw of 24.35, he took the high jump with a record equalling leap of 1.45. Callender also carried away the shot putt with a toss of 9.39, won the 1500 in a time of 5:21.76 and he was victorious in the 400 in 56.29.
Wiggins wrote an equally impressive resume for green house with record victories in the 1500, javelin, long jump, shot putt, 100, 200, 800, javelin and discus to finish on 91 points. St. George are expected to build on their performance for the school finals with such names as Reshunna Dawson, Anya Williams, Jason Corbin, Akeem Nurse, Taneja Leacock, Danielle Leacock, Zaquille Phillips and Mario Harewood providing challenge and support for the division winners.
