Attorney?General?Adriel Brathwaite says measures have to be put in place to deal with the rising number of people on remand at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds in St Philip.
Brathwaite told the DAILY?NATION he would have to speak to Superintendent of Prisons Lieutenant Colonel John Nurse about finding creative ways for those on remand to spend their time while in prison.
“We don’t have a structure in place for those who are on remand,” he noted. “It is of concern to me that we can have people up here for a week or a month, up here simply doing nothing, as they are not prisoners.
“We may require the intervention of the Superintendent of Prisons to look at a structured programme for them,” he said.
The Member of Parliament for St Philip South said it was far from ideal to have those on remand idle.
