MAXWELL doubled down on their titles by tripling up on the Marshalls.
Add Brittney to the list of talented Marshalls in Maxwell (Purple) after she and senior twin boys Romario and Akeem helped the champs retain Grantley Adams Memorial’s inter-house crown by an almost 300-point margin at the National Stadium yesterday.
It was all one-way traffic in Waterford for a Maxwell side that never trailed for the entire championships after entering the day with a slight lead over Challenor (Blue) before finishing with a mammoth 977 points.
Challenor were second with 705 – 80 better than 2012 winners Byer (Red) while Crawford (Green) and Johnson (Yellow) finished with 562 and 539 points in an exact replica of last year’s house standings.
About the only thing different was Britney’s performance in Division 3 as the newly-crowned victrix ludorum went one better on her 2013 showing by adding the 100-metre crown (13.69 seconds) to her repeat victories in the 200 (29.31), 400 (1:10.47) and 800 (3:18.00) events.
So dominant were Maxwell that their lone competition came from themselves, with eventual victor ludorum Romario and Akeem going neck and neck all day in almost every Division 1 boys’ race.
Akeem would end up ceding the 200 (23.23 to 23.32), 400 (50.64 to 50.71), 800 and 1500 events by the slimmest of margins before finally getting back at his brother in the 100, where the two were clocked at an identical 11.05 seconds.
He also edged Romario in the long jump but his 56 points were still some seven behind the victor ludorum, who led all athletes on the day with a meet-best 63.
Romario also added a record for good measure when he equalled David Thorne’s 2003 mark in the 800 metres.
The Marshalls weren’t the only top performers for Purple though, as Kariel Collymore also took top honours in Division 1 following wins in the 100 (13:09), 200 (27.82) and 400 (1:06.35) and a second-place run in the 800.
After handing over the overall title last year, Byer again had to settle for Rhea Inniss winning the Division 2 girls’ title again after the powerhouse took the 100 (13.39), 200 (27.33), 400 (1:07.31), long jump (4.22 metres) and shot put (7.89) events.
Teammate Aliyah Cox was just as impressive during her romp through the Division 4 girls’ category when she swept the 100 (14.14), 200 (30.27), 400 (1:10.60) and 800 (3:24.00) metres.
Crawford accounted for two division champions of their own through the efforts of Davion Thorpe and Josh La Rose in the boys’ division 2 and 3 categories respectively while Johnson’s Denzel Jordan proved the top boy in Division 4.
