Don’t panic

The dreaded Hand, Foot and Mouth disease affecting some children in Barbados may not be as serious as it sounds.
The Ministry of Health has yet to advise any local nursery school to close, even though there have been marked increases of children coming down with the ailment.
Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George told the DAILY NATION that there had been much innuendo in the public domain, but that Barbadian parents should not panic.
“Hand, foot and mouth disease is contagious, but it really isn’t a public health issue,” George said.
