Minister of Youth Stephen Lashley rolled back the years yesterday as he challenged some youths to a quick game of “keep away” football.
It was part of The Zarico Weekes Soccerama at Briar Hall Pavilion & Resource Centre, in Christ Church – a tournament that started when now 14-year-old Weekes sought an audience last year with Lashley, who is MP for Christ Church West-Central.
“He came to my constituency office, and I was touched by a 13-year-old coming to sit with me. He told me he felt there should be a football tournament here, as the youngsters were not doing anything. So we developed a programme using the concepts of football and teamwork,” he said.
Lashley was outgunned by the younger players, But there were all smiling faces when the game was over.
